Bunkasha, the publisher, consisted of members who were involved in producing propaganda magazines for the Japanese military during the war under the name Tohosha. Among them were artists such as Ihei Kimura and Hiroshi Hara, who later became leading figures in post-war Japanese culture. This photobook features images of American soldiers stationed in Tokyo, the cityscape devastated by air raids, and the people living amidst the ruins.
